Youth power showcased in Globe Campus Connect Super Showdown

Hundreds of students from 14 colleges and universities across the Philippines trooped to the GSIS Theater as their best talents faced-off for top honors and prizes in the Globe Campus Connect Super Showdown National Finals.

The competition, a student-based project of Globe Prepaid, links up all schools in the country, forging unity among its students. The top 14 schools were chosen from two regional finals held in March and September this year. The finalists were ACCESS Computer Technology College, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University, Siliman University, Perpetual Help College of Pangasinan, Iligan Medical Center College, Laguna College of Business and Arts, Liceo de Cagayan University, Lorma Colleges, Naga College Foundation,  Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila, University of the Cordilleras, University of St. La Salle and De La Salle Lipa.

At the end of the competition, the Naga College Foundation (NCF) bagged the grand prize with their spectacular Tausug dance number that left the judges in awe. The NCF dancers won P50,000 in cash and their school was awarded another P50,000. Placing a close second was the Sambit Dance Group of the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), winning P30,000 for the group and P30,000 for their university; while the Levictus Band of the Access Computer Technology College placed third, bringing home P20,000 for the campus band and P20,000 for their school.

“The Campus Connect Super Showdown is designed to empower the youth to become more creative, plan and make decisions that benefit the majority. This is a competition that has harnessed the youth power of schools nationwide in an effort to link them up and encourage them to show their best potentials and talents,” explained KD Dizon, Head of Globe Prepaid.

Globe has designed a special service for students, teachers and other personnel of schools, colleges and universities called Campus Connect, a text broadcast facility that allows the community members to stay informed and in touch. The Globe Campus Connect service is used by various schools to broadcast via text all pertinent school activities and programs.  Using the innovative service, the schools will be able to send announcements like suspension of classes due to calamities or other crises, cancellation of exams, messages from the Dean or President, upcoming events, and other student activities.
